I-Behavior® iPad® Cases

So What Makes a Great Marketer?

I recently met with a fellow alumnus, just a couple years out of college, who is looking to break into the marketing field. With over ten years of B2B marketing experience in the technology sector under my belt, I was called upon to provide some “expert” advice to this fellow alumnus on Marketing and how to go about getting a job in the field. The conversation led me to digest , and then regurgitate, what I have learned in this fast moving environment and it brought me back to a broad, seemingly obvious foundation and explanation promoted by our Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Brett Schklar, which curiously isn’t that obvious at all to so many in the Marketing field.

If You Think Marketing Automation Is a Magic Bullet, You're Shooting Yourself in the Foot

Perhaps the biggest problem with marketing automation is its name. The word “automation” implies that this is a magical technology that you can turn on, walk away from, and presto – you’ll have a successful campaign. Perhaps a better name for this technology would be digital marketing assistant. But buyers beware! If your marketing automation system relies on content that lacks creativity and strategic insights, it can easily become an expensive spam maker.

Why we work where we do

I sometimes get people who are excited to come visit our offices due to its location as well as how fun and casual our offices are. Even if we are outgrowing our current offices and looking for larger space, we're still going to stay in the Art District on Santa Fe. This cornerstone of Denver's art, music and entertainment scene is not only a great place to work, but has some of the most enjoyable people in the world. Denver post just wrote an article about the music side of the arts here in the district. It's a great article and just another reason I'm proud of not only having our offices here in the Santa Fe Art District, but also a reason why I'm proud to serve on its board.

Using Personas to design your 2011 marketing budget

Here's a thought: as you're looking to organize your marketing budget for 2011, why don't you build a mini-marketing plan around each key persona you're trying to target? Think about it. How much more targeted can you get than that? If you know which personas make up what percentage of your revenue, then you can invest your marketing using that same weight.
